Operations Manager Cairns

  • Would suit a management individual from within the Fire Services industry
  • Permanent full-time role within a specialist organisation
  • Seeking a dynamic management professional driven by targets and objectives
  • Work with a growing national organisation developing our new facility based in Cairns

 

Wiltrading STACE provides safety inspections, testing, servicing, certification, project management and asset management services to the Marine & Offshore, Industrial and Defence sectors. We have a unique, newly formed opportunity available for a dynamic, self-managed Operations Manager to build and develop our new Cairns based facility.

Reporting directly to the National Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of our new facility through satisfying client requirements; ensuring all timely inspections and servicing of fire and mechanical equipment in compliance with Australian Standards.

Utilising your driven and pro-active leadership skills, you will be responsible for the following however not limited to:

  • Develop strategies to increase turnover per annum and a return on assets employed as determined and agreed by the National Operations Manager.
  • Grow, develop & lead a Technical team across multiple skill bases and work disciplines, with fire equipment as the core service.
  • Liaise with the operational support team to ensure the quick turnaround of service equipment.
  • Provide monthly forecasts and operating reports.
  • Achieve both short and long term business development objectives including tender success rates and the targeting of key clients.
  • Target the company’s performance – profits, ROI, TO, Safety, QA & Environmental.
  • Achieve a return on assets on each project as budgeted.
  • Establish, monitor and maintain the key drivers towards contract profitability and implement staff KPI’s which reflect this rather than peripheral issues.
  • Communicate and implement new and existing company strategies to meet long term objectives.
  • Review non – conformances and approve solutions, corrective actions and disposition.
  • Review all cost control on contracts and projects undertaken in the company.
  • Assume overall responsibility of occupational health, safety and environmental compliance with relevant legislation, together with promotion of high safety standards to company personnel.
  • Preparation of customer quotations.
  • Identifying and capturing remedial work.
  • Compile and distribute job packs and help ops support where necessary to understand their contents.
  • Ensure frequent and complete reporting to the operations support team on the status of all work being completed under the Cairns branch.
  • Ensure regular contact with key suppliers to ensure smooth delivery of spare parts and equipment.
  • Promote the company’s growth and new business opportunities.
  • Learn new skill sets to enhance the branch’s service offering.
  • Other duties as directed by the National Operations Manager and/ or General Manager.
  • Mentor and support the learning and development of team members.
  • Implement Health and Safety on site in compliance with relevant state legislation, Acts, common law, company procedures and special site requirements.
  • Ensure risk management policies and guidance are in place to clearly define responsibilities, processes, delegations and decision-making powers; and all staff fully comply with organisational, business and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all environmental management systems conform to international standard requirements.
  • Undertake the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the relevant operations plan and manual to meet the strategic goals and interests of the business.
  • Work with the Business Development Team to grow the Defence business sector nationally.
  • Work closely with other operational areas of the business to ensure full resource utilisation across the company.
  • Undertake other related activities as directed by the National Operations Manager and/ or General Manager.

 

Essential Competencies

  • Minimum of 5+ years Managerial experience mainly in the Fire Services Industry.
  • Ability to manage the company’s budget diligently.
  • Good knowledge of quality systems, policies and procedures.
  • Extensive contract administration experience.
  • Excellent customer service experience
  • Ability to review, change and manage various plans to the needs of the business
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound computer literacy, especially in regard to spreadsheets and financial reporting.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Sound ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities, complex problem solving and working under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain a focus on long term objectives.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated desire to develop people, processes and resources.
  • A successful track record in safety awareness.
  • Sound understanding of the Fire industry and / or Mechanical Services.
  • Self-motivated and ability to increase company targets.
  • Strong work ethic, enthusiastic and conscientious with a flexible approach.          
  • Ability to travel when and if required.
  • Current driver’s license.                                                                                                

 

Desirable Competencies

  • An associated trade qualification including FPAA and QBCC Licensing will be highly regarded.
  • Previous experience with High Pressure FFE systems such as CO2/ FM200/ Watermist etc.
  • Previous experience within Portable Testing, Sales and Service segment.
  • A trade background in mechanical services.
  • Current forklift license.
