Systems Engineering Manager

The Role:

It's an exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime Sustainment industry.  In 2016, Navantia Australia was awarded the contract to build two Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment ships, HMAS Supply and HMAS Stalwart, which is due to commence service with the Royal Australian Navy from mid-2020 and will remain in service for a 30 year Life of Type. NAUS will be responsible for the sustainment of both ships along with Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and form part of the AOR System Program Office. 

Navantia Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineering Manager to join the team out at its Garden Island office. You will be responsible for Systems Engineering and will lead a team to support the configuration baseline of the AOR vessels and provide specialty ILS engineering management throughout the AOR Life of Type (LOT). 

 

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Liaise with and advise the Commonwealth in regards to Systems Engineering aspects of the AOR support system
  • Support the Engineering Manager and Program Director in matters to do with the  Systems Engineering management of the AOR support system
  • Support Program Status Reviews 
  • Track, report and manage team KPIs
  • Author and maintain support system Systems Engineering plans / processes
  • Ensure Systems Engineering principals are followed within the AOR Enterprise, including but not limited to, through the Engineering Change Process 
  • Maintain the functional / requirements baseline developed during the AOR Acquisition program
  • Verify that the design of engineering changes meet the intent of the Request for Problem Resolution for that change
  • Validate the design of engineering changes against the stakeholder / end user requirements for that change, and the functional / requirements baseline
  • Conduct trade-off analyses to support decision making in engineering change design review gates, such as System Requirements Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews
  • Manage the individuals and outputs of direct reporting positions, being those within the Configuration Team and Logistics Engineering Team.

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or related discipline
  • Previous experience in Defence industry
  • Proven experience in Systems Engineering, processes and procedures
  • Understanding of ILS processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of Naval Engineering Change process
  • Working knowledge of Naval Systems (DOORS) 
  • Ability to work collaboratively, but can also operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
  • Australian Citizen holding or eligible for an AGSVA Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of Baseline
