Your new role

As part of the Strategic Land Use Planning & Environment Service Unit, and under broad oversight of the Manager Strategic Land Use Planning & Environment, this role leads and manages the Strategic Planning Sub Unit by applying specialist expertise in strategic land use planning, project management and people management.  For this role, the City is looking for someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude who focusses on implementation and delivery.

You will provide leadership to and be accountable for the work performance of the team, think strategically and have a focus on innovation.  You will provide efficient and effective service delivery, manage resources, governance and compliance and risk, and ensure that the City’s values are promoted.

The role communicates with a range of customers and stakeholders including consultants and contractors; government departments and agencies; other local governments; vendors and suppliers; the business community; members of the public; and City Leaders and employees.

You will be required to balance the people management and technical elements of the role, along with strategic and operational delivery.  A positive, proactive approach to change is required. 

What you will need

You will be passionate about the planning and development of cities and regions, and will have:

  • A university degree in Urban and Regional Planning.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Urban and Regional Planning, particularly in strategic land use planning.
  • Experience in a similar role within a local government in Western Australia will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of business planning, resource planning and budget management.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Advanced people management skills to direct, manage, evaluate and motivate staff.
  • Advanced customer service and communication skills.
  • Advanced organisational, problem-solving, influencing, research and analysis skills.
