Senior Program Manager

About the Role:

Our Enterprise Programme and Portfolio Management group is responsible in overseeing the successful end-to-end management of project lifecycle and ensuring that programs and projects are consistently delivered against KPIs of cost, quality, and schedule.

We are now seeking a Senior Program Manager to successfully lead a range of business critical, transformational and operational initiatives.  

Specifically, this Program focuses on deploying IT wide solutions across applications, web and mobile development, SaaS and DevOps.

 

 Key accountabilities:

  • Be accountable for the delivery of projects within the program to meet stakeholder expectations and agreements
  • Lead and manage the delivery of allocated projects against budget, time and targets
  • Lead the team in effectively managing all activities and the critical paths of projects
  • Represent AEMO in consultations and negotiations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proactively identify and manage complex situations and project risks by developing responses and preventative solutions in consultation with key stakeholders
  • Support program governance, program reporting and performance evaluation using appropriate governance structures
  • Manage multiple complex innovative projects involving interdependency planning with relevant stakeholders
  • Engage senior stakeholders to gain support for overall delivery plan and communicate status
  • Manage teams of project staff, contractors, subject matter experts, and vendors assigned to each project
  • Provide professional leadership advice, coaching and development to project teams

 

Required skills and experience: 

  • Demonstrated experience in leading programs larger than $15M
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and delivering large scale complex and high-risk projects to achieve successful business outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in providing leadership to project managers, project officers, and team members to drive quality project outcomes
  • Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal, communication, change management and negotiation skills at senior levels within and external to the organisation, including demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients, stakeholders and other industry partners to achieve outcomes
  • Experience leading project managers and other staff in managing the engagement of project consultants and contractors to enable the delivery of an on time, on budget, quality project(s).
  • Experience taking a leadership role in ensuring the quality of project management activities undertaken by the team, in line with AEMO’s delivery methodologies, including oversight of formal project plans, budgets, supporting documentation, records and registers
  • Prior experience delivering programs leveraging SCRUM/Agile methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with proven ability to analyse issues from different perspectives and draw commercially sound recommendations
  • Superior stakeholder management skills with the ability to credibly communicate, negotiate and influence strategic outcomes at the most senior level
  • Strong team player with the drive and high energy to inspire team and a highly engaging and natural leader
  • Energy industry background (ideal but not essential)
  • PMBOK, PMP or PRINCE2 practitioner/certified (ideal but not essential)
