GippsDairy Communications & Engagement Officer

GippsDairy is the dairy Regional Development Program (RDP) for our region. We deliver research, development, and extension programs to improve the profitability and sustainability of Gippsland's dairy farms.

GippsDairy is seeking a communications and engagement officer to be based in its Warragul office. The 0.8 FTE position would require high level writing, photographic and social media skills. An understanding of Gippsland and the dairy industry is preferred.

The successful appointee will have exceptional attention to detail, an ability to exercise good judgement and be a confident self-starter who is highly organised to work to deadlines, establish priorities and to work with a small, close-knit team. Successful applicants would require a degree in communications, marketing or public relations or at least five years’ experience.

Key responsibilities include (however not limited to):

Communication and Engagement

  • Contribute to the key objectives of awareness and uptake of programs and activities
  • Support the development and implementation of the communications plans for key Dairy Australia programs, ensuring a tailored approach based on farmer profiles
  • Liaise with GippsDairy team members and DA business groups, dairy farmers and industry in the development of communication plans
  • Support and provide guidance to regional and Southbank colleagues on communications activities

Content Development

  • Key message development to support GippsDairy communications needs and programs.
  • Development, writing and production of content to support DA’s themes and (regional and national) programs including case studies, newsletter articles, eDMs, flyers, scripts, podcasts and webpage content.
  • Stimulate and enable cross regional content creation and sharing, in line with national themes and regional priorities.
  • Gippsland regional production management, including art direction and proof reading.
  • Sourcing and interviewing farmer representatives to obtain quotes for inclusion in all farmer-facing promotional materials and articles.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Diploma or a Degree level in public relations / journalism / communications
  • Marketing and communications experience/Stakeholder engagement experience in a complex/corporate environment
  • High quality writing skills and ability to adapt style and tone to suit different audiences and communications channels
  • Networking and partnership development skills - ability to develop and maintain credible partnerships internally and with key influencers and suppliers
  • Experience in an agricultural sector (dairy or otherwise)

Desirable Experience:

  • An affinity for / knowledge of the Australian dairy industry – farmer and processing sectors
  • Regional communications experience
  • CRM and content management system experience
  • Project management experience
