Structural Engineer (Canberra)

Indesco is a highly respected engineering consultancy with offices in Canberra, Parramatta and Wollongong. We are currently working on a number of major projects and are offering a challenging and rewarding career opportunity for a Structural Engineer in our Canberra office.

The primary objective of the Structural Engineer will be to work on a broad range of projects across the retail, commercial and residential sectors. You will be responsible for full design from roof down to foundations as well as producing mark ups and detailing. Structures will include precast, post tension concrete, steel, masonry and precast with concrete and RC slabs. You will also be exposed to client liaison and project management.

We are looking for an engineer who is based in Canberra, or willing to relocate here. You will receive personalised mentoring and excellent project opportunities.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Structural design of medium and high-rise buildings, including post-tensioning design;
  • Undertake components of design as appropriate to the needs of the project within one’s capabilities such as;
    • Structural steel
    • Precast concrete
    • Reinforced concrete
    • Post Tension Concrete
    • Masonry
    • Timber
  • Plan design packaging and design interfaces;
  • Manage the design and verification of the design in accordance with the quality system procedures;
  • Preparation of engineering reports;
  • Utilise computer software packages available from the company to assist with the design process (12D, AutoCAD, Revit, Inducta, Space Gass, RAPT and Microsoft Office suite software);
  • Assist with the preparation of project plans;
  • Consider WHS and environmental issues relating to construction activities during design and documentation;
  • Monitor project costs and report progress to the Project Manager;
  • Review the work of Graduate Engineers for technical correctness; and
  • Supervise drafting staff to prepare design drawings.

Skills and experience

Essential qualification:

  • To be considered for this role you will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working for an Australian based consultancy undertaking the above tasks. This role will suit an ambitious engineer seeking to develop their career and learn from industry experts.
