Underwriting Administration Specialist

Sydney CBD

icare is seeking Assistant Underwriter with an analytical mindset and a passion for social impact to join our Prevention and Underwriting team.

  • Provide support for the end to end management of the declaration process
  • Fixed Term Contract ending September 2020
  • Salary from $110,745 + superannuation

We’re looking for someone to take ownership of the end to end management of the annual declaration process and provide support to agencies when completing that process. This is a temporary position that is being offered as a Fixed Term Contract.

You’ll be working with a diverse mix of collaborative, hardworking people who really care about making a difference for people and the NSW community. You will have a mind for getting things done and a heart for people and you will set the bar high through the quality of the work you do and the people-oriented decisions you make.

The successful candidate will have a strong insurance background, with a focus on general insurance underwriting, assistant underwriting or claims management. You’ll have sound commercial insurance knowledge to interact effectively with actuaries, scheme agents, renisurers and insurance specialists within agencies, as well as the ability to work effectively with vendors, IT support teams and various internal stakeholders. You’ll have a solid understanding of basic accounting rules, technology and database management. Familiarity with NSW Government schemes is highly desirable.

It’s an exciting environment where no two days are the same, but on a typical day you might find yourself:

  • preparing and efficiently delivering the yearly declaration questions
  • building relationships and interacting with external vendors/stakeholders e.g. external actuaries, technology vendor and scheme agents
  • defining and developing the support material to assist agencies in answering declaration questions
  • providing support online and over the phone to agencies when completing declaration questions
  • reporting performance levels of applications and vendors and ensuring reporting is completed on SLA statuses
  • facilitating training to internal stakeholders on the online declaration system
  • validating declaration data, identifying anomalies, inconsistencies and liaising with the client engagement team to complete
  • tracking of any declarations that are provided manually and including in the consolidated reports by line of business.

If you think you’re the right person for this role, send us your resume (3-4 pages). Don’t delay as we’re assessing applications as they are received. We’d love to hear how your capabilities, achievements and experience set you apart.

We know our strength comes from the diversity of our people and so we want people with different experiences and backgrounds to apply. We recognise the importance of balance and flexibility and understand that it’s not a one size fits all approach, so we’d be happy to talk about and consider your specific needs.

If there are any accessibility adjustments you need to help you be able to apply for this role, or if you require any further information about the role, please contact Jessica Gapes on (02) 7922 5752 for a chat.

Please note that you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport or a citizen of another country with a current visa that allows you to work in Australia for the duration of this temporary role.
