About the role:

An excellent opportunity has become available to join our Microscopy Team in Parkville.   

The Microscopy Facility provides support to our scientists requiring the use of light microscopy equipment and image processing tools. This role is paramount to uphold the efficient running of the facility and ensure scientists are appropriately trained to use the equipment and tools available.

Some of the responsibilities for the Support Officer include:

  • Provide instruction and training for equipment use and ensure appropriate use of the systems
  • Contribute to the cleaning, adjustment and maintenance of microscope systems
  • Maintain the microscopy booking system
  • Supervise the maintenance of a clean and safe laboratory environment compliant with PC2 regulations and the Florey’s OHS guidelines
  • Contribute to the development of training programs and delivering presentations and workshops.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with honours in biological sciences or Medical Laboratory Technology (anatomical pathology major)
  • Experience using wide-field and confocal microscopes
  • Familiarity with commonly used software programs (Stereoinvestigator, Neurolucida, FIJI, Amira and Imaris).

This position attracts an annual salary in the range of $64,687 (HEW 5-1) - $75,035 (HEW 6-1) commensurate with experience, plus generous superannuation of 14% or the option of 17% (subject to an employee co-contribution) in accordance with The Florey Union enterprise agreement. Employees are also eligible for substantial salary packaging (including living expenses, meal entertainment, accommodation, electronic devices, car parking and motor vehicles), together with three paid Institute days, annual leave loading, purchased annual leave, parental leave, and further benefits.
