Full Time – Temporary (Maternity leave backfill)

Council is seeking applicants who embrace our animal management values and can deliver quality customer service through innovation and collaboration.

Working closely with the community, Community Rangers are primarily responsible for:

  • providing customers with a range of animal management services and functions including the operation of the Shepparton Animal Shelter and the Domestic Animal Management Plan;
  • promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare standards;
  • protecting the community and environment from feral, nuisance or wandering domestic animals and livestock; and
  • conducting animal management education and enforcement duties in accordance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, Councils policies, procedures and internal plans;

To be successful within the dynamic animal management team, you will have:

  • best practice animal handling skills;
  • a thorough working knowledge of relevant legislation;
  • be an innovative team player whilst having the flexibility to adapt to new processes and procedures;
  • possess well-developed skills in public relations, oral and written communication, computer literacy, report writing, correspondence and briefs of evidence;
  • have emotional intelligence and experience in crisis negotiation;
  • be committed to delivering customer service excellence to the community;
  • be available to participate in the after-hours roster, cleaning the animal shelter, attending events and emergency management activities; 
  • a current Victorian driver’s licence; and hold or be willing to obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children’s check.

Relevant qualifications and/or experience in animal management, veterinary nursing, law enforcement or community education will be highly regarded.
