Deputy Head of Aircraft Maintenance

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager Aircraft Maintenance (GMAM), the Deputy Head of Aircraft Maintenance (DHAM) s responsible for the day-to-day management, compliance, planning, organisation, control and leadership of the Regional Maintenance Managers (RMMs) and Maintenance Services performed by Cobham Engineering under the Approval Certificate. The DHAM is a Responsible Manager.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Hold safety as a core value and contribute to the achievement of a zero harm and incident/injury free environment through active participation in all safety program relevant to the position
  • Maintain an understanding of this MOE, relevant CASR and CAR and Part 145 MOS
  • Ensure effective communication with the GMAM for all safety, quality, operational and compliance matters
  • Ensure the availability of all necessary resources including manpower, facilities, equipment and Maintenance Data for the scope of Maintenance Services approved; ensure all aircraft and AP maintenance including defect rectification is carried out to the standard of and in accordance with this MOE, relevant CASR and CAR, Part 145 MOS and responsible CAMO requirements
  • Develop and encourage Cobham Engineering employees to deliver, best practice and performance in safety reporting, quality, teamwork, productivity and efficiency.
  • Maintaining Cobham Engineering's employees understanding of relevant CASR and CAR and Part 145 MOS and this MOE and to drive the implementation and application of the MOE system through Cobham - Engineering to ensure compliance with relevant CASR and CAR.
  • Assist and provide full cooperation with auditors and investigators during audits and investigations
  • Ensure quality and safety audit finding remedial and/or corrective action are carried out and implemented in a timely manner
  • Support and promote the SMS, QMS and a Just Culture;
  • Liaise with the relevant National Aviation Authority when required
  • Liaise as necessary with responsible CAMOs, Suppliers and Subcontractors
  • Perform other duties as directed by the DHAM and act in their place in periods of absence, as required

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a similar position under the previous Civil Aviation Regulations 1988 or CASR 1998; or
  • Bachelor of Aviation Management or equivalent qualification; or
  • Five years of aviation experience as a licenced aircraft maintenance engineer including at least two years' experience in aviation management in a CASR Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisation or equivalent.
  • Sound knowledge of CASR as it applies to a Part 145 organisation
  • Sound knowledge of QMS and SMS
  • Sound knowledge of WHS
  • Sound knowledge of industrial relations and enterprise agreements
  • Knowledge of or training in:
    • leadership
    • performance management
    • delivering change
    • making decisions
    • CASR Part 145 accountabilities and responsibilities
