Superintendent Mechanical Systems

The Role:

It's never been a more exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime and Defence industry.  In 2016, Navantia Australia was awarded the AOR sustainment contract to build HMAS Supply and HMAS Stalwart, which is due to commence service with the Royal Australian Navy from mid-2020 and will remain in service for a minimum of 25 years. Navantia Australia will be responsible for the sustainment of both ships for their first five years of operation along with the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) and form the AOR System Program Office (AORSPO). 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Superintendent Mechanical Systems to join the AOR Program team out of its Garden Island, Western Australia (WA) office. As the Superintendent, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating and supervising the contractors and OEMs performing maintenance service activities as well as be the Subject Matter Expert in the Mechanical area to support the in service requirements for the AOR platform in the overall delivery of sustainment maintenance services for the AOR Vessels.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Support the Ship Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Planning Manager and the Maintenance Manager in matters to do with the maintenance management of the AOR Platforms.
  • Assist the Engineering team to solve technical issues.
  • Conduct Technical Engineering investigations, including triage of maintenance defects related reports
  • Conduct Technical Risk Assessments and assist in Maintaining the Mechanical related Technical Risk Register for the AOR.
  • Conduct System Safety engineering activities Hull and Mechanical related systems
  • Lead and Deliver Engineering changes as directed.
  • Develop Work Instructions
  • Develop and deliver Mechanical services as required for AOR Contract (Support).
  • Prepare AOR plans and reports as required by the Maintenance Planning Manager.
  •  Manage and co-ordinate subcontractors as required in performing the required activities.
  • Assist the Ship Maintenance Manager in preparing and supporting AOR Budgeting
  •  Manage and coordinate the test and activation processes related to platform systems.
  • Use the Navy’s Computer Maintenance Management System to develop and manage work packages

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Trade background in Mechanical and on the job experience in Engineering Maintenance
  • Proven skills and experience in leading a maintenance activities and Defect response function.
  • Experience within an Naval Maintenance Management role
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
  • Excellent technical skills in marine systems
  • Very strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
  •  Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of Baseline
