Urgent Defect (URDEF) Engineer

The Role:

It's never been a more exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime and Defence industry.  In 2016, Navantia Australia was awarded the AOR sustainment contract to build HMAS Supply and HMAS Stalwart, which is due to commence service with the Royal Australian Navy from mid-2020 and will remain in service for a minimum of 25 years. Navantia Australia will be responsible for the sustainment of both ships for their first five years of operation along with the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) and form the AOR System Program Office (AORSPO). 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Urgent Defect (URDEF) Engineer to join the AOR Program team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. In the role, you will be lead the ship maintenance activities and processes to ensure the initial response assessment and coordination for Urgent Defect (URDEF) claims executed are in accordance with, AORSPO, Navantia, N4 library and Seaworthiness requirements. You will be the Subject Matter Expert to support the in service requirements for the AOR platform in the overall delivery of sustainment services for the AOR Vessels in regards to all URDEF claims and daily update reports.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Be the key person responsible for URDEF Management for Ship 01 in accordance with the Maintenance Management Plan
  • Support as required key person responsible for Warranty for Ship 01 or 02 in accordance with the Maintenance Management Plan and Warranty Management Plan
  • Assist the Engineering team to solve technical issues.
  • Conduct Technical Engineering investigations, including triage of Urgent Defect related reports
  • Conduct Technical Risk Assessments 
  • Conduct System Safety engineering activities
  • Develop Technical Instructions
  • Develop and deliver Hull and Mechanical services as required for AOR Contract (Support)
  • Prepare AOR plans and reports as required 
  • Maintain the Technical Support Network for Hull and Mechanical systems.
  • Manage and co-ordinate subcontractors as required in performing the required activities.
  • Support Asset Management requirements, including Life Cycle Cost investigations, Annual Works Programs.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager in preparing and supporting AOR Budgeting
  •  Manage and coordinate the test and activation processes related to platform systems.
  • Be Navantia Australia’s Hull and Mechanical representative during the In-service Phase.
  • Use the Navy’s Computer Maintenance Management System to develop and manage work packages
  • Use Navantia Australia Purchasing system

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
  • Proven skills and experience in leading a Urgent Defect function
  • Experience within an Naval Engineering Management role
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience
  • Excellent technical skills in marine systems
  • Very strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of NV1
