To address the under-representation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Curtin University is seeking expressions of interest from women of outstanding capability and potential to fill roles across all academic levels in the Faculty of Science and Engineering; the Faculty consists of the following schools:
  • School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering
  • School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences
  • WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering
  • School of Molecular and Life Sciences
  • School of Earth and Planetary Sciences

Women represent 25% of the current academic workforce in Science and Engineering, and only 10% of professors.  Curtin University is strongly committed to gender equity and diversity, and to improving the representation of women in STEM disciplines, as evidenced by our successful Athena SWAN Bronze accreditation in the first cohort of submissions in Australia in 2018. As part of the Athena SWAN program at Curtin University, a range of initiatives have been introduced to support and empower women in STEM disciplines, including the setting of gender targets for leadership roles, gender balance in all key university committees, roll out of unconscious bias training, and career development programs for early to mid-career female academics and for senior female academics. 

The Curtin Action Plan also prioritises recruitment of female STEM academics, and therefore Curtin University is calling for Expressions of Interest from talented and suitably qualified women in these discipline areas for roles ranging from the level of Lecturer to Professor, depending on the individual’s experience.  Applicants will be considered for current and future opportunities. Female candidates identified for suitable positions through this process will be invited to visit Curtin and participate in a selection process.
