Platform Engineering Manager

The Role:

It's never been a more exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime and Defence industry.  In 2016, Navantia Australia was awarded the AOR sustainment contract to build HMAS Supply and HMAS Stalwart, which is due to commence service with the Royal Australian Navy from mid-2020 and will remain in service for a minimum of 25 years. Navantia Australia will be responsible for the sustainment of both ships for their first five years of operation along with the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) and form the AOR System Program Office (AORSPO). 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Platform Engineering Manager to join the AOR Program team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. In the role, you will be responsible for platform engineering and leading a team of Engineers to support the engineering in service requirements for the AOR platform in the overall delivery of sustainment services for the AOR Vessels. The Platform Manager will establish a collaborative working relationship with the Navantia Spain engineering IPT, the Commonwealth and the Industry Partner(s) to create and grow a best practice and efficient engineering support capability.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Support the Engineering Manager and the Program Director in matters to do with the engineering management of the AOR Platforms.
  • Direct and supervise the Engineering team to solve technical issues.
  • Conduct Technical Engineering investigations, including triage of engineering related reports
  • Conduct Technical Risk Assessments and Maintain the Platform related Technical Risk Register for the AOR.
  • Conduct System Safety engineering activities for the platform and platform related systems
  • Conduct supportability and engineering analyses for the AOR Platform, including FMEA, RCM and MRD.
  • Lead, develop and deliver Engineering changes using Systems Engineering approach.
  • Conduct Systems Reviews (or support of).
  • Develop Technical Instructions
  • Develop and deliver Platform services as required for AOR Contract (Support).
  • Prepare AOR plans and reports as required by the AOR Program Director
  • Maintain the Technical Support Network for platform systems.
  • Manage and co-ordinate subcontractors and other resources required to perform the required activities.
  • Support Asset Management requirements, including Life Cycle Cost investigations, Annual Works Programs.
  • Prepare and support AOR Budgeting
  • Manage and coordinate the test and activation processes related to platform systems
  • Work within the Navantia Project team as part of the overall engineering and the tests and trials team.
  • Assist Navantia Spain with development of
    • ILS deliverables
    • Engineering documentation.
    • Maintenance Documentation Standard Activities.
    • Contract Change Proposals

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
  • Proven skills and experience  in leading a platform systems/design engineering function
  • Experience within an Engineering Management role
  • Minimum 8 years supervisory experience
  • Excellent technical  skills
  • Very strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of Baseline
