Operations Manager - Cattle Stations

Has recently purchased this 68,000 ha property in North Queensland located, 280km West of Cairns. One of the most versatile and well-watered breeding properties in the region, our client is excited to be appointing the right person to the role to assist them in building their cattle business to a highly productive and successful enterprise.

Experienced within the agriculture industry - most specially livestock, you will oversee the safe operations of the entire business while developing and implementing appropriate strategies to meet longer-term production goals and deliver gains towards profitability, efficiency and quality.

Mustering is due to commence in May which is done on horseback, with dogs and supported by two helicopters which will be at your disposal for this activity and at all times.

Plans are in place for a new state of the art accommodation facility for staff and all alike. This facility will include a house specifically for the Operations Manager role and you will be given the opportunity to have input into the design - a dream come true!

There are also plans in place to further develop and improve all infrastructure with in the property. All of which the Operation manager will have a major input in to.

The successful candidate must be able to successfully drive a culture of positivity and high performance. Committed to ensuring compliance with WHS and other industry standards, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Focus on upholding the existing herds health and stability
  • Understanding of low stock handling skills
  • Understanding of feedlot processes
  • Leading and motivating your team
  • Manage and operate Station resources and equipment
  • Budget management
  • Ensuring a high level of presentation across the property
  • Reporting to the management team
  • Actively promote a safe and productive company culture
  • Oversee station maintenance and general upkeep

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in a supervisory role within the agricultural industry - they will need to have the highest level of knowledge with regards to cattle breeding and handling. Experience with irrigation, grass and silage production will be highly regarded.

Self-managing and proactive, you must have a good working knowledge of OH & S requirements and be efficient with excellent site management capabilities, ensuring all quality and maintenance standards are upheld.

You need to be an effective communicator - someone with great leadership skills who is committed to the business and in the achievement of all set tasks. To be considered for the role, it’s important you address the following criteria:

  • Qualifications in business, agriculture or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience working in agriculture with knowledge of cattle, grains and irrigation
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including client management and strategic relationship management
  • Sound computer literacy
  • Driver’s licence essential
  • Road Train licence
  • Skilled horse rider
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and organise work demands and meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in leading, managing, coaching and motivating a team
