Medical Officer

Defence are looking for four medical officers for the following positions:

 

  • Regional Medical Advisor , Joint Health Command, Melbourne VIC
  • Command Medical Advisor, Joint Health Command, Canberra ACT
  • Senior Medical Advisor – Occupational Medicine, Joint Health Command, Canberra ACT
  • Chief Medical Officer, Defence Force Recruiting, Canberra ACT

 

Joint Health Command

 

Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the provision of health care to all current serving members of the ADF. With a commitment to high quality service provision - delivered with whole of life focus - JHC prides itself on being a key enabler in optimising the nation’s Defence personnel and a trusted mission partner to commanders at all levels of the organisation.

 

The positions

  • provide medical leadership to JHC
  • provide subject matter expert advice within JHC, Defence and other government agencies
  • drive clinical governance best practice within the organisation
  • participate in and promote continuous improvement and innovation

 

Unique opportunities

  • Ability to maintain clinical currency through on base service provision via garrison health centers
  • Flexibility to develop the position to enhance its contemporary role within the transforming health service delivery structure
  • Option for remote work, with periodic trips to Canberra for key meetings and engagements
  • Broad sphere of influence to develop and implement health policy and programs as a principle advisor to the Surgeon General of the ADF

Defence Force Recruiting

 

Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) is responsible for recruiting for the Australian Defence Force the right people in the right numbers at the right time in order to build and sustain Defence’s capability.  DFR is comprised of a national headquarters in Canberra (HQDFR) and 16 Defence Force Recruiting Centres (DFRCs) across Australia. The DFR health service ensures that only people who are medically and psychologically suitable are selected for Defence service.

 

DFR is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and skilled Chief Medical Officer to exercise CMO delegated authority in accordance with Defence policy and to lead the DFR health service at the national level. Within HQDFR the CMO is responsive to Director General DFR and leads and directs the headquarter health section which is comprised of medical practitioners, psychologists and health administrators. The health section supports the CMO in meeting the requirements of the CMO delegate function.  As DFR health service lead the CMO is supported by a national senior medical officer and four regional senior medical officers responsible for delivering the medical service at the 16 DFRCs.  

 

Competitive applicants for the CMO role will have an understanding of the Defence operating environment and occupational medicine principles together with a track record of success in leading effective teams, communicating with influence across a range of stakeholders, shaping strategic thinking and delivering time constrained results.
