Lead - Research Scientist

ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this appointment, you will establish and successfully execute the new role of Lead - Research Scientist, by managing research projects, fostering a high-performance team and leading business development. You will work across a range of projects and lead research activities that will contribute to our knowledge of insecticide resistance and pest management options for key agricultural pests. Importantly, working with cesar will give you the chance to make an impact in agricultural industries through engaging with farmers and farm advisors to share research findings.

This role will involve

  • Ensuring research projects within the Insecticide Resistance & Management Research area meet milestone requirements and profit targets;
  • Managing and fostering a high-performance team; 
  • Supporting cesar directors, through project management activities, undertaking project reporting requirements and development of publications;
  • Leading business development (tenders, funding proposals, developing project ideas), and meeting agreed monetary targets;
  • Contributing to cesar's innovation missions and business planning;
  • Upholding the company brand and acting as a thought leader, motivator, and supporter of staff and leadership team; and
  • Maintaining significant external networks and demonstrating the ability to develop and maintain high quality external partnerships and relationships.        

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Technical - expertise in the area of invertebrate research, ideally insecticide resistance management and/or evolutionary biology; 
  • Management - demonstrates an intrinsic capability to drive and deliver quality research outputs and outcomes;
  • Efficiency - able to produce significant output in an efficient and effective manner;
  • Initiative - demonstrates exceptional self-motivation and independence;
  • Organisation/planning - plans, schedules, budgets in an efficient, productive manner. Focuses on key priorities;
  • Attention to detail and follow through on commitments - is a 'finisher' ensuring tasks are completed to a very high standard and lives up to verbal and written agreements;
  • Persistence - demonstrates tenacity and willingness to go the distance to get something done;
  • Analytical skills - able to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it. Exhibits a probing mind and achieves penetrating insights; and
  • Communication - excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrates a high level of emotional intelligence.
