The team

Your legal, business and analytical skills will play an important role in exercising ASIC's functions and powers under Ch. 5A of the Corporations Act 2001. You will manage a high volume of matters, including the assessment of simple applications to deal with deregistered company property and the provision of advice to stakeholders as to the appropriate remedies available. You could also be drafting legal documents, including court documents.

The role 

As a Paralegal/Lawyer, you will be contributing to work in the Property Law Group by:

  • Assessing various types of simple applications (e.g. transfers of property and discharges of mortgages)
  • Preparing submissions to the Property Law Delegate
  • Responding to enquiries from parties affected by a company's deregistration
  • Assisting with administrative tasks such as creating new activities, data entry and searches.

  • Undertake reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others in the workplace that may be affected by your actions.

About you
  • A tertiary qualification in law from a recognised educational/accredited institution is desirable
  • Knowledge and/or exposure to all areas of the law, particularly property law
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation administered by ASIC, including the Corporations Act 2001, and ability to interpret or capacity to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding of property law legislation in all Australian jurisdictions
  • Strong attention to detail.
