What you'll be doing

The Manager Media & Corporate Communications will oversee the community engagement, media liaison and communications operations of the ISLHD and its facilities. The focus of the role should be to build solid community relationships to help consumers actively participate in the improvement of the patient experience. The role should also build public confidence in the NSW Ministry of Health system through strategic planning and tactical management of media liaison operations and by providing high-level advice on effective management of the District’s response to emerging issues.


The Manager is also responsible for implementing systems to support partnering with patients, carers and consumers to improve quality of care. The role also involves maximising positive communications opportunities through the development and implementation of successful public relations strategies involving media programs, issues management, internal and external communications programs, publications and event management. The Manager, Media & Corporate Communications is responsible for effective community and consumer relations, media and communications policies and procedures.


Temporary full time maternity relief position until 25 October 2020 with the possibility of an extension at same/reduced hours.

Selection Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in media, journalism or a related field and demonstrated high-level experience in public relations, communications and/or journalism with a demonstrated understanding of NSW health issues.
  2. Excellent leadership, and highly developed management skills.
  3. Demonstrated high-level experience in issues management, and demonstrated highly developed and effective negotiation and delegation skills.
  4. Proven capacity to co-ordinate and motivate staff.
  5. High-level interpersonal and written communication skills including demonstrated excellent media writing skills.
  6. Proven capacity to manage multi-disciplinary groups.
  7. Proven experience in management of department workloads, and providing timely delivery of services.
  8. Demonstrated speech writing skills and experience in government and ministerial correspondence.
