Airside Wildlife Management Officer

About the business and the role

Biodiversity Australia is a leading Australian Environmental Management Consulting Business focused on building sustainable partners, economic management and ecological balance. We have a specific business unit that manages wildlife and bird strike management programs for various civilian and military airports throughout Australia.

We are seeking to employ a suitably qualified person to undertake airside wildlife management duties in the Darwin region and surrounds.

The person we seek should have sound wildlife identification capabilities with experience in wildlife management preferred. The successful applicant will receive internal training and be fully supported by technical staff and resources.

Start and finish times will be variable depending on operations.

There may be a requirement to work on public holidays and weekends for up to a maximum of 4 hours per shift.

Key Attributes

The key attributes we are looking for are as follows:

  • Experienced in airside operations
  • Experience with ARO, WSO or airside duties
  • Experience with wildlife management
  • A self-starter, reliable and highly motivated
  • Ability to work unsupervised

The role will be particularly suited to:

  • Those experienced in wildlife and/or vertebrate pest management, or
  • Those experienced in Airside Operations.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Active management of wildlife airside
  • Data collection and management
  • Developing wildlife management strategies
  • Client liaison and relationship building
  • Meeting and contributing to high company ethics and safety standards

Skills and experience

Formal qualifications that will be highly regarded:

  • ARO or WSO qualification (or demonstrated experience)
  • Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC) 
  • Firearms licence

Qualifications and Experience               

The Aviation Field Team Member will be required to perform several functions within the company.  The position should be staffed by a Team Member with some or all of the following qualifications and experience:

  • Appropriate field experience or tertiary qualifications in ecology, zoology, natural resource management or equivalent;
  • Experience or qualifications in handling wildlife in a safe manner;
  • Appropriate field experience in operations airside and around aircraft;
  • Experience with air band communications (with ground and tower);
  • General Construction Induction Card;
  • Firearms License (Cat A&B); and
  • Ability to apply for and receive an Aviation Security Identification Card.

 

Skills and Requirements

The required skills of the Aviation Field Team Member include:

  • Good written and oral communication skills and polite phone manner;
  • Ability to use a computer to submit timesheets etc.;
  • Ability to conduct field-based wildlife survey and data collection;
  • Ability to compile this data into required reporting formats;
  • Understanding of ground and tower instructions; and
  • Knowledge of taxiways and aircraft movements.
