Systems Safety Engineer/Officer

Luerssen Australia is a subsidiary of Lürssen, a 4th generation family-owned German company that builds Naval defence vessels and luxury yachts from its nine shipyards across Northern Germany.

Luerssen Australia is engaged as the prime contractor to build 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Department of Defence over a 12 year period. 

 

The successful applicant will be required to undergo the Australian Defence Force Security Clearance process, of which a minimum requirement is Australian Citizenship.

 

The Role

This role is to be a team member of the System Safety Program (SSP) to provide support activities of the SSP and for the development of the Safety Case.

 

This role is primarily works closely with Senior System Safety Engineer and liaises with various stakeholders. At times, the incumbents will be required to work across Verification and Validation and Quality areas as well, providing support across all the three areas of System Safety, Verification and Validation and Quality.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ongoing System Safety Program’s activities working closely with Senior System Safety Engineer.
  • Hazard identification using multiple techniques
  • Assisting with hazard log development and implementation
  • Preparing/assisting with preparation of system safety deliverables of L-AUS and review of system safety deliverables of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Assisting with conducting of system safety working group’s meetings and support
  • Assist with Verification and Validation and Quality areas as needed from time to time working closely with these teams
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and interested parties to perform assigned tasks.
  • Assisting in coordinating contractor safety activities in the System Safety Program.
  • Raise any risk or issue with Senior System Engineer or Direct Manager.

 

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or vocational/TAFE qualifications at an Advanced Diploma level in the fields of software, electronics, communications, mechatronics, electrical or mechanical
  • A minimum of 1-2 years experience for degree qualified engineers or 5-6 years experience for TAFE graduates
  • Apply technical skills in analysing technical information
  • Cross discipline knowledge or willing to acquire quickly and apply this to daily work
  • Experience using data management tools
  • Ability to understand/interpret technical information and drawings
  • Safety risk assessment, functional safety experience - desirable
  • Experience or exposure to defence projects – desirable
  • Microsoft Office Suite – intermediate to advanced skills
  • well-develop communication  and interpersonal skills
