About the business


McFarlane Criminal Lawyers has offices in both Warragul and Morwell. We regularly appear in the Magistrates' Court/Children's Court, County Court and Supreme Court in criminal law, family division and intervention order proceedings at various court locations throughout Gippsland and beyond. We have great working relationship with counsel and believe in the importance of representing our client's from the beginning to the end. We are open 5 days a week and have 24 hour after hours contact for our client's arrested outside of business hours. 


About the role


You would be encouraged to work autonomously as a solicitor advocate and manage your file load. You will have regularly contact with stakeholders including prosecutions, counsel and court staff. You will need to utilise advocacy skills through appearances in Bail Applications, Department of Human Services/Child Protection matters,  Family Violence Intervention Orders (Applicant) Family Violence Intervention Orders (Respondent) Indictable criminal offences being the more serious offences such as murder, Summary criminal offences including traffic offences and Children's Court proceedings, Personal Safety Intervention Orders and Victims of Crime Applications

Skills and experience


Strong advocacy skills. 

Brilliant communication, interpersonal and writing skills

Ability to work autonomously and manage a significant file load in summary and indictable matters

Will need a drivers licence to travel to different court locations and work at the two office locations in Warragul and Morwell

Knowledge of Victoria Legal Aid guidelines an advantage.
