Bushfire Risk Planning Coordinator

2 Year fixed term contract

The Shire of Brookton is a small regional local government with its administration centre located in Brookton, some 100km east of the Perth metropolitan suburb of Kelmscott.  

Reporting to the Manager Infrastructure and Emergency, and working closely with DFES’ Bushfire Risk Management Officer (BRMO), this role requires a motivated and experienced professional with the required skills to develop the bushfire risk management plans for 4 regional local governments, including the Shire’s of Brookton, Corrigin, Dumbleyung and Kondinin.

To be considered, you will need to have:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of emergency management and bushfire risk management.
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills with experience undertaking risk assessments. 
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and reporting skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workloads to meet agreed timeframes. 
  • Possession of a current C Class manual Western Australian driver’s licence.

Desirably you will also have:

  • Experience applying bushfire mitigation strategies and management with an understanding of the principles of bushfire behaviour and suppression activities.
  • Proven experience working with ICT based systems.
  • Experience applying for external grants funding and administering projects.

In return the Shire is offering a remuneration package inclusive of:

  • Cash component of $88,000 per annum
  • Superannuation of up to 13.5%
  • 4 weeks annual leave per annum with leave loading
  • Commuter use of a Shire vehicle
