The Role

The Homelessness Support Worker role is a casual role based in our Toowoomba Hostel.

The Toowoomba Hostel provides temporary shelter together with case management support to homeless males over the age of 18. Support focuses on identifying and overcoming barriers to obtaining long term safe, secure and sustainable housing.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Client case management activities
  • Support for clients in their daily tasks and activities
  • Frequent liaison with external providers including mental health, legal, law enforcement and Centrelink services and personnel
  • Office and administrative tasks including case notes and reporting obligations
  • General cleaning tasks in rooms and common areas
  • First aid as required
  • Ability to perform shift work including overnight 

Key Selection Criteria

Client Services

  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge of issues affecting clients accessing Human Services Support Programs
  • Demonstrated experience in providing functional support within a case management framework

Administration & Documentation

  • Certificate IV in Community Services or similar
  • Demonstrated computer literacy including word processing, Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously to ensure job/responsibilities are completed on time

Communication & Teamwork

  • Demonstrated ability to establish working relationships with a wide range of people and organisations
  • Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills to communicate with staff at all levels of the organisation

Risk & Compliance

  • Demonstrated understanding of continuous quality improvement

Health & Safety

  • Demonstrated ability to comply with all relevant Workplace Health & Safety legislation
