Little Athletics Australia (LAA) is the national governing body for the sport of little athletics in Australia. LAA’s operations are underpinned by our organisational values of inclusion, integrity, innovation and excellence. The organisation is a voluntary organisation with a membership base of State and Territory member organisations, and children and their families throughout Australia. The athlete membership in Little Athletics is upwards of 80,000 children.
LAA shares a vision with University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) to transform athletics into the most inclusive sport in Australia. LAA aims is to provide high quality, accessible, life changing opportunities through sport and physical activity to all children of all abilities, improving health, confidence and skills, increasing positive behaviours and bringing enjoyment and connection. To achieve this vision, LAA has partnered with USC to deliver The True Inclusion Athletics program.
The True Inclusion Athletics program will develop and implement an Australia wide Athletics Inclusion strategy with the aim to empower and enhance opportunities and pathways of young people with additional needs, through athletics, including ensuring children who seek to, can take part in athletics, including the competition.
Little Athletics Australia is seeking applications for an Inclusion Program Manager (IPM) who is a highly engaged, autonomous and proactive professional, passionate about providing meaningful opportunities to all individuals through sport. The IPM will bring skills in strategy development & execution, relationship management, project management and sporting experience, to lead this unique program, responsible for achieving greater levels of inclusion within athletics. The IPM will embrace and promote innovation, and paradigm change for the treatment of people with disability, understanding the gaps and opportunities to include all children in athletics. In this high-profile role, the IPM will collaborate with numerous operational, development and product teams inside and outside LAA and USC to coordinate, define and implement solutions that create and deliver the True Inclusion Athletics vision.
Reporting to Little Athletics Australian Development and Projects Manager and working closely with USC the True Inclusion Athletics Program Manager will be someone who will build collaborative relationships, working closely with others to identify and resolve barriers to success and to create and execute change.
Roles and Responsibilities
Manage the coordination, design and implementation of the True Inclusion Athletics program for Little Athletics Australia and USC including:
· Coordinating and overseeing the work for the reframing of the structure and rules of LAA competitions for all children, to create competition that is truly inclusive and fair;
· working collaboratively with the LAA Member Associations and other partners to deliver the agreed activities associated with the program;
· coordinating, promoting and developing the upskilling of volunteers and staff in the inclusion of CWD together with their peers in athletics;
· overseeing the reframing of the structure and rules of LAA competitions for all children, to create competition that is truly inclusive and fair;
· coordinating the development promotion and delivery of a kit for athletics clubs to implement the restructured program of athletics;
· coordinating the development promotion and delivery of a kit for of a of an information kit for all parents, in easy to understand language, to explain the new structure and appropriateness of including children of all abilities in the same events in a way that is fair;
· coordinating the development promotion and delivery of a self-help kit to help CWD and their families participate in “Little Athletics”. This kit will provide information on how to access NDIS funding for support worker assistance for participation in LAA, and other supports that the NDIS can provide to increase the children and their family’s capacities to be included in LAA at all levels;
· recruiting, managing and upskilling a network of Inclusion Officers to provide the training of coaches and volunteers in adaptions and inclusion of CWD in the athletics events;
· Prepare and manage a quality assurance regime for LAA clubs ensuring that Little Athletics be accredited to deliver athletics to CWD in a safe and best practice way.
· providing recommendations concerning the development and delivery of best practice management of the program;
· developing and maintaining positive relationships with local communities, agencies, contractors, participants, volunteers, and other program partners to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the program;
· working closely with other Little Athletics Australia and USC staff in all aspects of the program;
· preparing and managing the program budget;
· providing periodic reporting on the progress of the program;
· maintaining contemporary knowledge of social issues impacting sport participation for children with additional needs;
· championing the cause for more inclusive practices in Australian athletics to enhance meaningful participation and pathways;
· ensure program and program personnel compliance with all LAA’s Ethics and integrity policies and best practices where applicable.
Work Health and Safety
These responsibilities should be read in conjunction with Little Athletics Australia’s Workplace Health and Safety policy and procedures. Specifically:
· all employees should understand Workplace, Health and Safety (WH&S) principles and comply with LAA’s WH&S system;
· all employees should adopt safe work practices that comply with WH&S requirements and must not willfully place at risk the health and safety of any person in the workplace;
· all employees should participate in relevant WH&S meetings, training and other activities as required.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
· Tertiary qualifications in project management, change management or another related field
· Significant and current experience of developing innovative inclusion initiatives and implementing inclusion strategies within a sporting context
· Experience of successfully leading and/or managing several projects simultaneously
· Outstanding verbal communication and influencing skills with a proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships
· Experience in navigating complex and diverse stakeholder environments to achieve shared outcomes
· Demonstrated ability to establish, implement, maintain and grow community partnerships to provide opportunities for inclusive participation
· Current police and working with children check or the ability to obtain prior to the commencement of employment
· Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of MS Office and other sport specific computer programs
· Lived experience of disability and/or understanding of the disability support sector and the NDIA;
· Previous experience working with indigenous communities and/or culturally and linguistically diverse groups
· An understanding of Paralympic sport and more specifically sport for para-athletes, including existing knowledge of the disability classification process and system
· Demonstrated understanding of the operations of a National Sporting Organisation operating within a federated structure, with experience and proven success in developing and delivering programs at the National and/or State level
- This position will require some domestic travel, after hours and weekend work
- Full time or Part time to be negotiated
