Luerssen Australia is a subsidiary of Lürssen, a 4th generation family-owned German company that builds Naval defence vessels and luxury yachts from its nine shipyards across Northern Germany.

 

Luerssen Australia is engaged as the prime contractor to build 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Department of Defence over a 12 year period. 

 

The successful applicant will be required to complete an Australian Defence Force Security Clearance process.  You must therefore be an Australian Citizen to apply for this role.

 

Structural Engineer (based in Henderson, WA)

This role is responsible for representing the German based technical department in the Australian project organisation and supporting the project organisation in all questions regarding the construction in the field of outfitting of the OPVs.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Supports the project organisation in all questions regarding the construction in the field of outfitting of the OPVs.
  • Controls and monitors the component suppliers within the Lürssen PS-System.
  • Leads and coordinates the communication between the technical department and other project members such as customer representatives, project management, production and other engineers.
  • Coordinates build specifications.
  • Responsible for the seamless handling of the construction, supply and production in subject areas.
  • Responsible for the strict adherence to performance, quality, time and budget within the area of responsibility.
  • Develops, maintains and continuously improves concepts, standards and basic solutions in relation to outfitting.

Selection Criteria:    

  • A bachelor or master degree in mechanical engineering or naval architecture with shipbuilding experience is essential. 
  • Knowledge and understanding across ship building and outfitting requirements in similar size naval vessels to the OPV.
  • Previous or current hands-on shipbuilding experience. 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as requested by the Company.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach particularly in the start up phase of the project/company - it really is 'all hands on deck'
  • A desire to work in an environment where your input matters and you make a difference to the Luerssen Australia people, project and company.
