Business Development Manager - National Rural Issues

AgriFutures Australia is a fast paced, commercially savvy and future thinking organisation. Their vision is to grow the long term prosperity of Australian agricultural industries, Based in Wagga Wagga, NSW, this small statutory corporation is accountable to the Australian government. They specialise in assisting rural industries to become more innovative, adaptive and valuable by investing in research, development and extension. They place their people, rural industries and regional communities at the heart of everything they do.
  
Within the Business Development arm and due to increased workload, a new role has been created within an existing program, Manager – National Rural Issues (NRI). Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Development, the role is to provide advice and oversee the national rural issues related business development programs. Largely, the NRI program seeks to directly address barriers to growth and help rural industry (food, forestry & fisheries) and governments respond to opportunities. This is done by generating research, information and tools that informs and improves policy debate. The role initiates and develops research, development and extension (RDE) programs that span rural issues such as:
  • trade and market access
  • provenance
  • community trust
  • sustainability
  • labour
  • transport and connectivity
Collaboration is key and AgriFutures partner with Rural RDC’s, National Farmers’ Federation, Australian Government and agribusiness to address these contemporary national rural issues. In this visionary role, you will be involved in scanning for new issues, spotting opportunities and challenges, initiating assistance and identifying inhibitors to ultimately support, connect and extend people and issues. The role works closely with and supervises a coordinator to achieve program outcomes.
  
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • An entrepreneurial approach
  • Tertiary education in science, business management, policy or economics
  • Experience in rural research and development
  • Program management skills
  • Experience in delivering RDE outcome to end users
  • Leadership, relationship management and communication skills
  • Experience working in small teams
