About Hancock Agriculture

A world-class agribusiness, Hancock Agriculture, incorporating S. Kidman & Co Pty Ltd and Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd Services, is seeking to appoint a competent Station Hand to join the team at Helen Springs Station. The position is available for immediate commencement.

Hancock Agriculture has a long and proud history in Agriculture. With over 30 properties across Australia, spanning 10 million hectares, we are one of the country’s largest producers of beef with a herd of over 320,000.

About the Property

Helen Springs Station, situated in the Barkly Region of the NT, is a 5,626km2 breeding property which runs up to 27,000 head of Brahman/Charbray cross cattle.

Lush green gardens and lawns surround the station complex, which includes a swimming pool and social club.

At Helen Springs, the team enjoys a friendly and supportive workplace where career and personal growth is encouraged. Industry professionals conduct various training activities during the course of the year, ensuring everyone receives the best opportunity to develop their skills and further their career in the industry. Mustering operations and general station work intertwines with social events across the Northern Territory.

About the Role

Reporting to the Station Manager, your key duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Mustering cattle using horses and bikes
  • Attending to all facets of cattle husbandry and processing
  • Carrying out general station maintenance and repairs - including fencing & welding
  • Undertaking general vehicle & machinery operation and basic maintenance, and
  • Assisting with land and environmental management practices.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in the movement, handling and processing of cattle, using calm and controlled methods
  • Sound horsemanship and motorbike skills (Motorbike licence preferred or be willing to obtain)
  • Basic mechanical, welding and fencing knowledge
  • Competent operation of various station machinery/equipment and carrying out basic servicing & maintenance
  • A strong work ethic and commitment to working safely
  • Good understanding of animal welfare practices
  • Ability to record information and communicate effectively in the workplace
  • Hold a current Class C Drivers Licence (truck licence an advantage)
  • A genuine passion for Agriculture and living and working in a remote rural location.
