A busy Sydney criminal law firm seeks a full-time lawyer to become a valued member of our team.

We operate weekdays between the hours of 8:30am - 5:30pm and provide a friendly working environment.

 

This role focuses on:

  • Representation in complex and summary criminal matters;
     
  • Criminal hearing and trial work;
     
  • Instructing and briefing counsel;
     
  • Prepare written correspondence involving legal argument;
     
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Criminal Law including practice and procedure;
     
  • Legal research skills;
     
  • Negotiation skills;
     
  • File and client management;
     
  • Working with other team members.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Appearing in all Courts on a daily basis;
     
  • Having autonomous conduct of criminal files in both the summary and committal streams;
     
  • Liaising with clients, Courts staff, Prosecution agencies and various external organizations; and
     
  • Instructing and working closely with Counsel.

 

Skills required:

  • At least one year of experience working full time in a criminal law firm (either as a solicitor or a law clerk);
     
  • Strong advocacy skills;
     
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills;
     
  • Proven experience in a criminal law firm; and
     
  • Able to travel to different courts on daily basis (driver licence required).
     
  • Please note that knowledge of New South Wales Legal Aid guidelines an advantage;
