Our laboratory in Brisbane is a state of the art facility and regarded as one of the best equipped bovine IVF labs in the world.


About the role


The position of IVF Laboratory & Field technician is a full-time role that involves assisting with bovine IVF production, liaising with and supporting supervisor and training other staff. Specific responsibilities are as follows.

  1. Prepare media and reagents for proprietary bovine IVF processes;
  2. Receive bovine oocytes delivered to the laboratory;
  3. Conduct proprietary IVF process under the supervision of the embryo transfer technologist;
  4. Process vitrification (freezing) of embryos for storage;
  5. Check incubators and all laboratory equipment;
  6. Calibrate all laboratory equipment
  7. Prepare samples, reagents and media for experimentation and validation;
  8. Train local staff in the technology of the IVF process
  9. Conduct oocyte searches and aspiration in the field
  10. Clean and sort aspirated oocytes and prepare for transport from field to lab
  11. presenting results in graphic and written, diagrams and reports
  12. Maintenance of IGT's client semen and embryos databank
  13. controlling the quality and quantity of laboratory supplies by testing samples and monitoring usage

Depending on the experience of the candidate, salary is in the range of $75,000 to $80,000 per annum plus super.


Skills and experience


Skills and experience required 

1. At least 5 years experience in bovine IVF embryo production and laboratory work, 2 years experience in bovine oocyte search and aspiration 
2. Understanding of and practical experience in the IVF production process and the method of vitrification of bovine embryos that we use;
3. Understanding of bovine IVF media and reagent preparation for bovine IVF 
4. Understanding of IVF equipment validation, testing and calibration
5. Strong experience in oocyte search and oocyte aspiration.
