Therapeutic Innovation Australia Pty Ltd is the lead agent for the NCRIS "Translating Health Discoveries" (THD) project. TIA Ltd is a small and agile not-for-profit company with a sharp focus on helping translational researchers to get their research done. As part of the NCRIS program, the THD project has been allocated $45M from 2018-2023 to invest in translational research infrastructure to support therapeutic development over the long term.

The THD project provides funding for a consortium of leading national research infrastructure facilities that provide translational services in the areas of cell & gene therapies, biologics, small molecule pharmaceuticals and clinical trials.

TIA adds value to this investment through innovative initiatives such as the Pipeline Navigator (therapeuticinnovation.com.au/navigator) and Pipeline Accelerator (therapeuticinnovation.com.au/accelerator) initiatives. 

TIA is seeking a multi-talented and proactive part-time (0.5) Business Development Manager to assist the CEO in developing TIA's Small Molecule capability (therapeuticinnovation.com.au/small-molecules), which consists of five separate translational research infrastructure facilities in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Collectively, these 5 facilities have complementary expertise and know-how for progressing small molecules from hit identification at one end of the drug discovery pipeline to a drug candidate being progressed into an IND-enabling toxicology and safety pharmacology program at the other.

 

About the role

 

TIA is seeking a part-time (0.5) Business Development Manager to help develop TIA's Small Molecule capability. 

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Undertake business development activities of the R&D capabilities of the 5 facilities that comprise TIA's Small Molecule Capability.

  2. Promote the capability's R&D capabilities to universities, research institutes and biotech companies within Australia.

  3. Create opportunities to direct potential clients to the appropriate facility in a timely manner.

  4. Review and update promotional materials related to the capability.

  5. Contribute to TIA strategic planning and strategy implementation

  6. Other duties as required by the CEO of TIA, including assisting with periodic reporting

The role reports to the CEO of TIA, and will have frequent contact with the leadership of the five TIA-funded small molecule facilities, as well as other key stakeholders.

Accountabilities

  1. Business development: promotion to universities, research institutes and SMEs within Australia
  2. Client relationship management: Efficient and effective support for clients and prospective clients

  3. Strategic planning: Develop and implement strategies for expanding the capability's capacity and service offerings

  4. Roadshows and promotion: Manage the capability's contribution to planned TIA Roadshow promotional events.

Location

This new position with TIA is an opportunity to make an immediate and lasting impact on the organisation and the sector. The position will be based at Monash Institute for Pharmaceutical Research (MIPS), located in Melbourne's Parkville biomedical precinct.

Some interstate travel to undertake site visits or meetings may be necessary.

Term

The position is funded for the next several years. The initial contract length will be fixed-term for 12 months (three months probation), with an option for 2-year extension.

Only part-time (0.5 fraction) applicants will be considered. Combining this role with another 0.5 FTE position is possible depending on the other role. 

Base salary (range equivalent to HEW9) is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Superannuation rate will be 9.5%.

 

Skills and experience

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's level qualification (at least) in a relevant life sciences discipline, preferably with postgraduate qualifications in a relevant area.

Knowledge/experience/skills

  • Extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with knowledge of medicinal chemistry, drug candidate optimisation and preclinical drug development
  • At least 5 years experience in a business development role in the biopharmaceutical sector.
  • Professional and thorough with well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • Highly effective interpersonal and client relationship management skills
  • Self-motivated, 'can do' attitude, enthusiastic and a good team player
