Outfitting Design Engineer

The Role:

It's never been a more exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime and Defence industry.

Due to Navantia Australia’s ongoing success in delivering specialised Engineering Services to the LHD (ACPC) Program we are expanding and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Outfitting Design Engineer to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney Office. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a successful team of talented engineers who thrive on collaboration and teamwork.

As the Outfitting Engineer, you will be responsible for working within the General Design and Outfitting division of Navantia Australia’s Naval Design and Engineering Team to deliver outfit systems for naval ships. Systems responsibility include; compartment and equipment arrangement, lifting equipment, anchor systems, door closures, ladders and flooring systems.

 

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide mechanical and marine engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge
  • Complete outfit systems design for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering process
  • Create engineering designs to integrate platform outfit systems and equipment in to naval vessels
  • Utilise 3D modelling tools to develop designs, producing those designs in to 2D drawings using CAD software
  • Undertake technical investigations and root cause analysis to develop innovative engineering solutions
  • Deliver technical reports and technical documentation in accordance with established Navantia and customer standards
  • Work effectively as an extension of the General Design and Outfitting division at the Navantia Design and Engineering Centre located in Melbourne.
  • Plan and coordinate assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery, including the development of project plans, schedule and engagement of internal and external stakeholders
  • Plan and administrate design coordination meetings with engineering project stakeholders
  • Plan and administrate Design Review meetings with the Client

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Bachelor Engineering in Mechanical Mechatronics or Naval Architecture
  • 3-6 years’ experience in relevant engineering or marine environment working in a system’s engineering role
  • Experience in the design of mechanical, minor structural and outfit systems on naval ship platforms
  • Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment (highly desirable)
  • Knowledge of 2D CAD (AutoCAD/MicroStation) to produce design information
  • Competent in the understanding of, and development of, engineering documentation and engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
  • Australian Citizen holding or eligible for an AGSVA Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of NV1
