Electrical Field Engineer

The Role:

It's never been a more exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime and Defence industry.

Due to Navantia Australia’s ongoing success in delivering specialised Engineering Services to the LHD (ACPC) Program we are expanding and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Field Engineer to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney Office. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a successful team of talented engineers who thrive on collaboration and teamwork.

The Electrical Field Engineer is responsible for providing front-line engineering support to the customer and Navantia team covering issue investigation and problem resolution, design change planning and implementation, commissioning and operations as well as coordination of ongoing maintenance and repairs to assigned shipboard electrical systems. Systems responsibilities includes; electrical plant, cabling and installation systems, power distribution and conversion equipment, lighting systems and alarm systems. 

 

In this role, you will:

  • Work effectively across the Field Engineering operations and provide specialist technical advice to the ACPC Engineering Support Manager
  • Undertake engineering analysis & investigations related to asset performance & optimisation, maintenance & defect repairs and obsolescence
  • Engage with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) and local supply chain to develop problem resolution and optimisation strategies
  • Engage proactive communication with ship’s staff and SPO with regards to ship issues and defects
  • Analyse and report on merits of engineering change proposals including deviations & waivers
  • Develop Technical Instruction documents & minor engineering changes including quality & safety requirements
  • Oversee shipboard technical assurance activities including test and trials, commissioning & Sea Trials
  • Undertake Pre-refit Condition Assessment trials and reporting
  • Provide support to production related activities covering safety, cost, schedule, quality and technical requirements

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Electrical Engineering
  • 3-6 years’ experience in relevant engineering or marine environment working as a technical specialist in a field engineering or systems engineering role
  • Experience in conducting engineering investigations, analysis and writing reports
  • Experience in complex technical engineering projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with standards, rules and regulations including Ship Class, Australian, European and US Military standards
  • Demonstrated safety-first approach to the management and operation of electrical systems
  • Competent in the understanding of, and development of, engineering documentation and engineering drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
  • Australian Citizen holding or eligible for an AGSVA Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of NV1
