Safeguarding Coordinator

Safeguarding Coordinator

The Safeguarding Coordinator ensures that the Y Canberra People are supported to ensure that every young person at the Y, in their families and their communities, feels and are safe, valued, heard, respected and empowered as aligned under the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and Y National Child Safety Licensing Standards.

 

About the role:

The Safeguarding Coordinator role is a full time role that fits within the Safeguarding and Quality team, and has a number of key objectives:

  • Empower and educate our Y People, young people, their families and their communities on a regular and ongoing basis
  • Embed preventative measures in a time efficient manner
  • Assist to respond to all safeguarding concerns within prescribed timeframes
  • Assist to pass and maintain compliance with the Australian Childhood Foundation/ approved external provider's safeguarding audit
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with the Y National Child Safety Licensing Standards.

 

About you:

  • Qualification in Education, Psychology, Social welfare, Children’s services or other related discipline or proven experience in Safeguarding / Child safe organisational roles
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding practices and legislation
  • A calm demeanour with high level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to effectively manage competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to have complex and challenging conversation with staff, families and participants including children and young people
