Journalist - Melbourne Office - Permanent Full Time

A bit about us:

As one of Australia's leading property portals, we've made a name for ourselves helping people find a place to call home. And now, we want to help you find your place too; a place to do your best work, a place to celebrate your career milestones with cake and coffee and a team that cares. We are bursting with incredible talent who are just as passionate about their craft as you are, making this more than just a workplace.

More about you:

You are an experienced journalist keen on real estate and know-how to find a great story. You are someone who understands how to distil complex data to make it a compelling story and be able to explain what stories mean against the background of the broader property industry and news about Melbourne and Victoria.

You will live and breathe digital and know what makes a story stand out in a noisy news and content environment.

A lot about the role:

In this role you will be working closely with the Melbourne editor and the national news editor, developing stories and content for Domain’s growing audience in Melbourne and Victoria, as well as across Australia.

You will think creatively about what sorts of stories will have people come back to Domain and what stories will attract new readers, using audience insights and metrics to guide you. You will be constantly looking for the next great story, talking to people across the city and the state to unearth new stories.

A Tuesday to Saturday working week is required.

Day to day will see you:

  • Pitch, write and produce high-quality stories and content.
  • Develop advanced working relationships with contacts to deliver readers compelling property news relevant to Melbourne and Victoria.
  • Understand and follow news and trends and how they apply to the property market.
  • Respond to, and attain a sound understanding of, audience analytics.
  • Covering the Saturday auction market

What we are looking for:

  • Three to six years’ experience as a reporter in a newsroom (This is not an entry-level position)
  • Track record of published work, strong production skills and social media knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of Melbourne and Victoria
  • An understanding of CMS and social media, including how it can be used to source stories
  • Ability to read and interpret audience analytics
  • An interest in residential real estate is a benefit
  • Bachelors’ degree or relevant industry experience

Why will you love working at Domain?

We know how important it is for our people to be happy at work. That's why we offer flexible working arrangements which include flex hours and work from home options.

Why not enjoy yoga classes, table tennis and some fabulous foodie spots available right at the doorstep?

We want you to be the best you can be in your role so we also provide sales training and mentoring to help you get there!

So…what happens next?

We will give your application the attention it deserves and you will hear from us either way. If it's a good match, one of our recruitment consultants will give you a call (so make sure you keep your phone handy!).
