About Us

Established in 1939, Gowrie Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation committed to our purpose to champion good early childhood education and care.

We provide long daycare and kindergarten across five early learning centres located in Broadmeadows, Carlton, Carlton North, Docklands (The Harbour) and Yarraville; and through our Adult Learning department we also deliver qualifications in ECEC and professional development for the sector.

Our employee engagement levels are in the top 10% for care-based organisations, and 80% of our employees rate Gowrie Victoria as a truly great place to work.

2020 has been a challenging year for the ECEC sector and we have been able to retain our employees by offering flexible leave and work-from-home options.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a fulltime Service Leader/Ed Leader/ECT for our new 66-place sessional and integrated kindergarten service co-located with the new Docklands Primary School. With an opening date in January 2021 we are seeking a candidate who would be able to commence in November 2020 (preferred).

Leading a team of 8 (FTE) you will report to the Operations Manager and be a part of the broader Gowrie Victoria leadership team. You will work collaboratively and build relationships with the team at our existing service at Victoria Harbour for the benefit of the broader Docklands community.

This is a unique and exciting role that combines elements of Assistant Manager, Ed Leader and ECT. As a member of Gowrie’s early learning leadership team, you will:

  • Assume all responsibilities of a Nominated Supervisor and, supported by the Operations Manager, be accountable for the service’s financial management, people management, compliance and administration;
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of an early learning program in consultation with educators and families that is responsive to community needs and consistent with Gowrie’s purpose, philosophy, values and organisational strategy;
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, colleagues and the broader community;
  • Actively participate in, share and embed professional learning in the pursuit of higher standards;
  • Coach and mentor educators to achieve individual and team goals.

About You

You will bring to the role:

  • Minimum three (3) year Bachelor of Education in early education and VIT registration;
  • Significant experience in the ECEC sector including:
    • Demonstrable leadership experience in coaching and mentoring teams to achieve individual and team goals;
    • Demonstrable experience in managing operations and compliance, including but not limited to people, financials and administration;
    • A working knowledge of the CCS and other funding streams;
    • A commitment to working collaboratively with families and community partners; including schools and child support agencies.
  • The confidence and ability to consult with the broader community in the design and delivery of an early learning program that responds to community needs and aspirations;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of the NQF, approved learning frameworks and child safety and well-being.
  • A proven ability to engage in critical reflection of your own practice as a leader and early childhood professional.

What We Offer

Gowrie Victoria prides itself on our unique and engaging working environment.

  • We recognise and value the importance of creating a supportive environment and strong, healthy relationships.
  • Coaching and mentoring across our programs.
  • Targeted, holistic professional development, organisational conferences and social events.
