Member Services Officer

The Australian Institute of Architects is the peak body for the architectural profession in Australia, representing more than 11,500 members across Australia and overseas. The Institute works to improve our built environment by promoting quality, responsible and sustainable design, promoting the architectural profession and being the public voice for architecture.

Role overview:
The Membership Services Officer is an integral part of the Queensland Chapter team, contributing to the Institute’s ongoing growth and supporting members with practical, relevant and responsive services that may include the delivery of Awards, Events, Prizes, CPD, Education and administrative support. This role will focus on the Awards & Prizes and Sponsorship in the Queensland Chapter.

Key Selection Criteria:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated experience in events/awards coordination, preferably in a peak body or membership association
  • Experience in or a strong understanding of a professional association’s awards program 
  • Experience in administration, membership services, event management or project delivery 
  • Experience in working with or an understanding of the architecture and built environment sector and an empathy with design excellence
  • Experience in working with corporate sponsors through all stages of the sponsorship lifecycle (i.e. identification, proposals, sign-up, servicing and support)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the requirements of effective consultation and professional servicing, including an ability to work on multiple projects concurrently with a diverse range of professionals, volunteers and partner organisations
  • Experience in using the Microsoft Office suite of software, together with social media knowledge

The following is highly regarded:

  • Experience in working with financial management and project budgets
  • Experience using a membership database system such as iMIS

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Focus on membership growth, using key strategies to demonstrate membership value and enhance member recruitment, retention, renewal and reinstatement
  • Adopting a strong sales and service mindset, provide accurate and timely advice and support, clearly articulating value and benefits, ensuring members receive the maximum benefit from their membership with the Institute
  • Identify and build relationships with organisations across who can offer sponsorship opportunities, using partnership prospectuses and showcasing the benefits of collaborating with the Institute
  • Coordinate all activities relating to the conduct of the jury process for the Chapter Awards Program, developing the judging and assessment itinerary, the awards processes and submissions, ensuring strict deadlines are met
  • Coordinate sponsor events, ensuring events maximise the sponsor’s exposure 
  • With a key focus on quality events and topical programs, support the development of the annual calendar of chapter events, including identifying topics, identifying presenters and delivering events that are impactful and well received by members
  • General administration and finances
