The National Basketball League (NBL) is responsible for the management and delivery of the men's professional basketball league in Australia and New Zealand, and is home to some of the world's best players.

The NBL is regarded as one of the premier basketball leagues in the world and is truly a sports entertainment experience like no other.

The Role:

As a Television Journalist for the NBL, you will be responsible for preparing, writing and presenting coverage and analysis of sporting events to engage our audiences.

You will be involved in researching game data, sports history, reading teleprompters and announcing play by plays. You will offer game insights to increase audience engagement, predicting potential game plans. You will interview coaches, athletes and other related officials as required in pre and post game coverage.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform the role of live expert commentator for NBL games, documentaries and programs as required.
  • Research, write and propose content ideas for the League across broadcast and digital channels.
  • Represent the NBL and its properties in person or as a voiceover in all League and Sponsor promos, television commercials as requested.
  • Be an ambassador for the League and its properties through regular TV, radio and newspaper media opportunities.
  • Conduct on-camera interviews with relevant personalities to increase audience engagement.
  • Moderate panels or discussions ensuring they are informative, engaging and accurate to increase brand reputation and exposure.
  • Attend local community and sporting events to gather news and results and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media to increase NBL exposure.
  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships to facilitate and build positive stakeholder relations.
  • Actively promote and support all NBL initiatives across your own social channels and in the public eye.
Knowledge & Skills Required: 
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in a similar role (Sports Journalist, Commentator, Ambassador).
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Basketball essential.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines through effective time management.
  • Must be involved in publicity and promotional events.
  • High accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a wider team.
