Junior Project Engineer

The Opportunity

This exciting opportunity is a full-time permanent position in our Newcastle office. The Junior Project Engineer monitors and assists with activities in the engineering scope, which includes drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and tooling design. As part of a dynamic engineering team, the Junior Engineer provides support for tenders, operations and projects. This diverse role will be the perfect opportunity for someone looking to expand their skill set.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to assigned internal and external customers (clients, production, other departments).
  • Provide production support including detailed design (3D models and 2D drawings) of tooling, jigs, frames and stillages.
  • Perform calculations, design studies, prepare BOMs.
  • Create clear and accurate technical drawings and technical documentation (specifications, instructions, engineering reports…).
  • Develop cost estimates, project schedules and interpret technical specifications and requirements from assigned clients.
  • Coordinate small scale projects as required and be responsible for schedules, budgets, forecasts.

Skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a relevant engineering or manufacturing function.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, 3D modelling and drafting skills (SolidWorks experience desirable).
  • High energy work ethic with the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with various departments and across multiple levels of the business.
  • Ability to solve problems and take initiative.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to travel on occasions depending on project requirements (domestic and international).
  • Eligible to be a member of Engineers Australia
