Depot Manager Newcastle

XL Express are a proud privately-owned business specialising in seam-less break bulk transport and logistics solutions, with a comprehensive national network of terminals located in all mainland capitals and major regional centres.

Celebrating 30 years in 2020, our privately-owned Australian company operates in the break bulk, 3PL and road express verticals offering our customers seamless logistics solutions.

We are proud of our people and consider it an imperative that our entire workforce is encouraged to embrace innovation, that we enable openness and idea sharing and that every employee understands they are regarded as integral to our success.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and talented Depot Manager to lead our Newcastle operations.

This is not your average role, and we are not seeking the average person.

A typical day will be demanding and consist of leading and supporting a small tight knit team of employees and subcontractors; ensuring they remain absolutely on point with our delivery schedules and timelines.

This is a hands on role and will require you to be on the floor coordinating, directing and assisting in the loading and unloading of parcel trucks. You must possess a current forklift and MR licence, as you may need to back up the team by conducting deliveries! This role truly integrates with the on-floor operations.

It is expected that the role will share the load to supervise Saturday shifts; on a rotating roster with your direct reports.

We promise truly seamless logistics and that’s what we strive to achieve each and every day.

The role will encompass all aspects of running a small regional freight operation. Your knowledge of Chain of Responsibility is second to none, and you innately understand, apply and ensure correct load restraint practices.

You understand that numbers tell a story; your attention to detail and laser-like focus ensures you are well across your KPI’s and targets. Your background in transportation aides you in focussing on the right areas.

Prioritisation and time management are an absolute strength, although your quick thinking and decision making ensures you have well thought out plans in place ready to go, in case you need to pivot and change direction.

This is a fast paced business operating on tight timelines and delivery schedules.

ABOUT YOU:

You value and champion a safe and positive workplace culture, where every person has the opportunity to thrive and be the best they can be, returning home safe at the end of the day. You are active and engaged in all matters pertaining to OHS and well versed in statutory requirements.

A natural leader, you are extremely approachable and can be relied upon for support by not only your team, but by your peers. An open communicator, your team know where they stand and what is expected of them – there are no surprises. You are authentic and genuine; you value lasting and meaningful relationships that are created both internally and externally.

You are inspired by innovation; however you don’t change for change’s sake. You have an appreciation and understanding of the legacy and culture of the organisation.

WHAT’S ON OFFER:

We truly love what we do and value our team immensely.

This role will offer a competitive salary negotiable with the successful candidate.

If this sounds like your perfect role and you want to contribute to our awesome business, you will need to address our criteria in a letter, along with submittal of your current resume.

XL Express is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.

No agencies please – our fabulous in-house recruitment team have this one covered.

All shortlisted candidates will be expected to provide two (2) referees with at least one (1) of those being a manager whom you directly reported to.
