Workshop Manager
The Client
Our client is one of WA’s largest Bus Charter operations with over 100 coaches and busses in the fleet that range from minibuses, luxury coaches and custom built buses for wheelchair & disabled access, catering for private charter and tours for corporate, schools, seniors and the general public.
The fleet is maintained at our clients 4 year old, purpose built facility in Welshpool that includes a huge workshop where the Maintenance Department carries out all preventative maintenance, hourly services, field service, major work and modifications on the fleet.
The Role
This is a hands on “Workshop Management” role where you will be responsible for and working across several key areas including;
- Working on the Tools – 60%
- Supervisory, Management & Administration – 40%
The supervisory and administration component of the role has the support of a workshop administrator to mainly complete the data entry of job sheets and work sheets, with the key “Supervisory and Administration” duties including;
- Delegation & Supervision of up to 8 workshop staff
- Inspection & quality control on all mechanical work
- Preventative Maintenance / Scheduling on specialized software
- Fleet Document Control & Management
- Parts Interpreting & Ordering
- Costing & Budgeting major works such as bus modifications
- Overseeing all workshop OH&S
This is standard workshop supervisory where you will be conducting pre starts and delegating work tasks to the workshop team of approximately 8 team members, ensuring that all mechanical work is to a high standard and in prescribed time frames. You will also be monitoring the occasional contractor in areas such as auto electrical and air conditioning assessing their work and signing off on completed jobs.
Having the technical knowledge to assess and diagnose faults quickly especially those that can escalate to major repair and breakdowns is essential. You will be able to manage and priorities numerous jobs, making changes to schedules quickly and effectively when unforeseen work presents itself.
The workshop focusses on preventative maintenance which carries out scheduled service and repair work. The Workshop Supervisor will also liaise with Bus Drivers in order to identify and potential issues with the bus they are driving.
As mentioned, you will be working approximately 60% of your time on the tools carrying out mechanical work ranging from;
- Preventative Maintenance - Scheduled / Hourly Service
- Inspections
- Fault Finding & Repair
- Major Repair
- Break down
- Field Service
- Components Change Outs
- Bus Modifications & Upgrades
Major work on the busses can cover the following major components;
- Clutches
- Transmissions
- Diesel Engines
- Diffs
- Cooling Systems
- Auto Electrical
- Air conditioning
- Pneumatic Systems
- Hydraulic Systems
The Candidate
Ideally, we are seeking a candidate that has experience working on busses or trucks and possess a trade qualification similar too or either in;
- Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
- Heavy Duty Mechanic
- Diesel Mechanic
You will be a motivated person that enjoys taking ownership of the role with the ability to manage the workshop effectively and efficiently. You will be focused on continual improvement having a major input in the decision making process of the workshop.
You will need to have the following skills and attributes to be considered for the role.
- Trade Qualified
- At Least 3 years experience as a Workshop Manager
- Be proficient on a computer
- Current Drivers License
Remuneration
This is a permanent role with the salary is negotiable depending on your expertise and experience and will be between;
- 90K to 120K
- + Super
- + Leave Entitlements
- + Work Vehicle
