About you

You will have extensive knowledge of working in a culturally diverse environment and have demonstrated capacity to engage persons of varying cultural backgrounds. You will also have proven skills in community development. You will hold considerable experience in planning, managing and conducting structured and progressive programs and activities for adults. You will also be required to conduct a needs analysis and then produce specific programs based on the needs of your class. You’re a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional moral values in everything you do.

 

About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Gym Activities Officer based at our Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation site (MITA) based in Broadmeadows VIC. The Gym Officer is expected to actively contribute to the achievement of the Serco Governing Principles and the Department’s Immigration Detention Values and accomplish excellent levels of service in the assigned responsibilities of this role. This is a full-time role working Monday – Friday and is a key role in helping to maintain a positive and healthy community by providing sporting, recreational, education, life skills and leisure activities.

 

To be successful in this role, you will be able to:

  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • Help develop, manage and deliver a schedule of structured and unstructured programs and activities
  • Contribute to team objectives / monthly schedule planning and positive team environment
  • Ensure activities are meaningful and encourage detainees to participate
  • Actively develop processes and encourage detainee feedback
  • Communicate effectively with staff and detainees regarding activities and events to ensure detainees can access activities of their choice
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing for planned activities
  • Ensure recreational equipment is available to detainees
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities that take place
     

Qualifications required:

  • Certificate III in Fitness qualification at minimum
  • Fitness Australia registration
  • HLTAID001 Provide CPR and HLTAID003 Provide First Aid certificates with at least 6 months currency on the certificate
  • Experience in conducting structured programs for adults
  • Experience working with people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds

 

This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment as an essential selection component for this role. IE: Australian Federal Police Clearance, Current First Aid qualification, Working with Children check etc.
