The Central Coast Council area is located on the coast of New South Wales, 60 to 90 kilometres north of the Sydney CBD, and about 80 kilometres south of the Newcastle CBD.
The Central Coast offers a wide range of lifestyle activities and places to enjoy. It is a region of outstanding natural beauty from beaches to ridgetops and wetlands to woodlands. Much of the region is covered by bushland, providing a scenic backdrop to urban development and offering numerous bush walks, camping grounds and facilities and other outdoor activities. The lakes and beaches are a great way to get out and enjoy various water sports and activities, with many community events and festivals.
Central Coast Council is responsible for the sixth largest urban area in Australia. Our Council area is 1681 square kilometres, which makes us far bigger geographically than Canberra.
The most recent projected population of the Central Coast by 2036 is 415,050. That’s a 23% increase in population, of approximately 80,000 people. Planning for growth and maintaining the lifestyle that our community enjoys is important for Council.
Reporting to the governing body of the Council, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the primary link between the elected body and the organisation for the purposes of the Local Government Act 1993. The CEO will support Council in developing a strong vision for a vibrant and sustainable region and a strategic direction and resourcing strategy to achieve that vision.
This also includes business transformation planning and activity. The CEO is also responsible for the efficient and effective management of operations, including staff leadership and a proficient financial management, to achieve strategic objectives.
The ideal background and experience of the CEO will include demonstrated experience working in an environment requiring strong financial, verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated experience with lobbying and advocating on behalf of Council and community stakeholders, strategic planning and development, a solid knowledge and understanding of local government and the relevant legislations and statutory requirements of a Local Government Council. A strong focus on providing transparency, achieving efficiencies/savings, delivering robust financial management and having highly refined political skills are critical to success in this role.
