Senior Consultant - Systems Engineering

Reporting to the Operations Manager - Queensland, the Senior Consultant - Systems Engineering will be responsible for performing a range of systems engineering activities across a portfolio of large-scale complex engineering rail projects. The opportunity will provide you with a collaborative environment in which to apply and develop your expertise and in a business that will invest in your ongoing career development and progression.

The role:

  • Responsible for the provision of systems engineering consulting services to high profile clients across complex, multi-disciplinary projects and programmes in the rail sector.
  • Provide technical systems engineering leadership for clients and projects through the confident leadership of multi-disciplined teams.
  • Providing clear and robust systems engineering solutions through a detailed understanding of complex rail infrastructure projects & programmes including; rollingstock;, signalling & train control (ETCS, CBTC, ATP etc), civil/structures and operations & maintenance.
  • Capture and share client need's by building strong relationships and generating confidence through engineering excellence with a commitment to satisfactory outcomes.
  • Manage tenders & bids, including the production of documentation and delivery of client presentations/and or lead the technical contribution/formulation of the project methodology.
  • Deliver projects to quality and time by coordinating multiple resources and the consistent management of commercial & financial drivers (project deliverables, contract interpretation, margin, utilisation etc).
  • Proactively seek consulting opportunities, communicating our broader engineering and people capabilities and the value our systems engineering expertise brings to client's projects.
  • Encourage team working and collaboration through open and transparent communication where individuals are empowered to share accountability within a project team.

Required experience & skills:

  • Senior systems engineering experience within the rail sector with proven experience in client-side leadership positions such as a Technical Advisor and/or Systems Engineering/Assurance Manager is preferred.
  • A thorough knowledge of systems engineering processes, practices and systems engineering tools such as IBM, Rational DOORS, MBSE tools etc.
  • Bachelor level qualifications in an engineering discipline or disciplines. System Engineering would be desirable.
  • Have obtained or working towards a chartered or equivalent professional status from a relevant institution (e.g. CPEng, RPEQ, NER, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience applying this knowledge to rail rollingstock and train control systems projects.
  • Experience in identifying, winning and developing new commercial opportunities across systems engineering and for the wider organisation.
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and manage teams and clients through sound leadership qualities.
  • Additional qualifications in project management, engineering management and/or business management is desirable.
