Our client has ownership and management of substantial property in NSW and dealings may include decommissioning, demolition or rehabilitation of power station sites and the operational management of closed power stations sites.   An opportunity has become available in the Central West NSW for a Graduate Engineer to ensure the activities being undertaken to manage and remediate the site are being carried out correctly in order to achieve environmental and safety compliance. 

 

This will include checking environmental systems, operating equipment to ensure containment, directing contractors to take action and reporting on activities to company management.   The position requires professional engineering qualifications to enable the role to actively participate in the design of containment systems, develop and implement water management systems and the major civil engineering activities to be undertaken on the site to remediate the ash storage areas for final storage.  The position will require travel to other sites and the person is expected to be capable of working unsupervised for short periods.  

 

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Responsible for undertaking routine inspections of the site and its facilities to ensure compliance with environmental and safe work legislation and applicable development consents.
  • Understand the operation of the site and its various containment systems.
  • Inspect plant and systems for defects and arrange repairs via contractors.
  • Supervise contract works being undertaken on site under direction
  • Investigate and produce high quality written reports into identified issues as required
  • Develop and review project plans and programs to confirm objectives of projects will be met.
  • Supervise works being undertaken on site by contactors
  • Coordinate activities between contractors to ensure smooth operation of project works
  • Direct contractors when required to ensure compliance objectives are met. 

 

 Key skills required:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Civil, Environmental or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Eligible for Graduate Membership of Engineers Australia
  • Understanding of Environmental and Planning Legislation
  • Proficient use of MS Office products, including Excel and 3D engineering design tools
  • Understanding of planning documentation or approval processes
