Role Overview:
The Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for working in and overseeing the effective coordination and implementation of our onsite Laboratory processes, including supervision of our QA Chemists and Lab Technicians.    

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Laboratory Supervisor will also be responsible for:

  • Direct involvement in conducting key technical laboratory tasks, hands on and supervising a small team
  • NATA accreditation and laboratory standards
  • Response to all NATA audits and ensure actions are implemented
  • Maintaining high standards of laboratory safety
  • Take a proactive role in safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures to comply with ISO9001, AS4801, ISO14001 and ISO17025 (NATA).
  • Plan, co-ordinate, supervise and report on laboratory staff and activities.
  • Undertake sampling, testing and analysis of samples, products and customer service complaints samples using Gas Chromatograph and other analytical techniques as required.
  • Ensure maintenance & calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Administer appropriate laboratory document control and relevant SQE documentation
  • Create and maintain process statistical analysis and control charts on products and be proactive in identifying necessary improvements
  • Liaise with operations on all activities requiring quality control, quality assurance and safe practices.
  • Assist in research and development and management of change activities where required.
  • This is a hands-on supervisor role

Essential Skills:

  • Suitable laboratory qualifications: Diploma of Science or Chemistry or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in the laboratory or in the chemical industry
  • Solid experience in a range of laboratory methods, including but not limited to ASTM, ISO, AHRI 700
  • An understanding of NATA/ISO systems and practices
  • Gas Chromatograph GC experience.
  • Good knowledge of safety, quality and environmental management systems
  • Proficient knowledge of dangerous goods/hazardous substances
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including MS Office
  • Operational experience within a laboratory environment
  • Well-developed communication skills both written and verbal
  • Good analytical and interpretive skills
  • A proven track record to engage, motivate and manage a successful team

Desirable

  • Knowledge of internal auditing and risk assessment would be an advantage
  • Six Sigma experience or equivalent process improvement would be advantageous
