Organisational Context
The National Serology Reference Laboratory (NRL) operates as a division of St Vincent’s Institute whose mission is to improve the health of the community by prevention, detection, or better treatment of common diseases. NRL was established as part of the Australian Government’s HIV and AIDS strategy. Contracted today by the Dept Health and licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), NRL undertakes scientific activities that support the accurate diagnosis and management of human communicable diseases, including HIV, COVID-19, HCV and HTLV. NRL provides unique and specialised services, including pre- and post-market evaluations of serology test kits, quality assurance programmes, specialised testing services, consultation, education and training for laboratories in Australia and worldwide.
The Role
NRL is currently seeking a full time Grade 1 Medical Scientist working in External Quality Assessment Scheme Team to provide technical and scientific expertise in the delivery of a range of infectious disease quality testing, quality assurance functions and workplace safety undertaken within NRL laboratories. The incumbent will be expected to apply theoretical knowledge in the undertaking of established diagnostic tests and procedures, moving to a higher degree of complexity and autonomy with qualifications and experience.
In addition to the specific technical and testing functions, the role also involves preparing written reports, delivering oral presentations and may involve liaison with external customers, key stakeholders and logistics companies in order to sustain and improve NRL's service delivery
Selection criteria
You will hold tertiary qualifications in medical science and relevant majors. You will have a broad understanding of infectious diseases, and serology and molecular diagnostic methods. You will also have considerable experience in laboratory diagnostic testing and/or quality assurance schemes. This position is suitable for an individual who prides themselves on a high level of accuracy in their work with advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
