Our client is a highly reputable national science organisation conducting world-class scientific research. Their Graphene research team is expanding and looking to appoint a Laboratory Technician to support the further development of novel graphene materials and devices.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team, working on activities to support the assembly of membrane distillation water system and to monitor the performance of graphene based water membranes.
The position will be for an initial term of 6 months with an option for an extension for up to an additional 6 months.
Duties include but not limited to:
Maintain the operation of water filtration systems and perform periodic sample collection and testing
Support the assembly and commissioning of a membrane distillation water filtration system
Evaluate opportunities for system improvements and support the development of alternate membrane modules
Design new processes or apparatus by adapting existing techniques and components to meet special circumstances or undertake modifications to methods requiring some innovation
The applicant must have:
Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Engineering, Physics, or Mechatronics
Experience working in a laboratory environment, with demonstrated understanding of safe laboratory work practises
The ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision, taking accountability for personal workload
The ability to operate within a team to effectively handle a number of parallel and competing tasks
Desirable:
Experience with the building or assembly of mechanical, robotic and/or electronic systems
Experience with the operation of materials characterisation equipment e.g. SEM and Raman
