Intake Worker

MacKillop Family Services, a Catholic community agency, exists to support, foster hope and promote justice for children, young people and families, particularly those who have experienced distress, disadvantage and abuse.

MacKillop works across New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. Each young person and family we work with is protected, nurtured and given the chance to build a brighter future.

MacKillop Family Services is an accredited provider of The Sanctuary Model. Sanctuary supports organisations to provide a safe and caring environment for people affected by trauma, and to maintain a culture that reflects these qualities at every level within the organisation.

The Intake Worker will be responsible for engaging with newly referred families into the FFT-CW program and assisting them to understand the FFT- CW program. Reporting to the FFT-CW Team Leader, the position will actively engage with the children and their families through the completion of prescribed intake processes and be involved in data analysis and reporting for the program.

FFT-CW is an evidence-based, whole family intervention program aimed at keeping families together, and wherever appropriate keeping children out of Home Care. Internationally tested and recognised, the model targets the causes of harm, and treats trauma. FFT-CW is a home-based treatment model that works with families where there has been physical abuse and/or neglect of a child. There are two types of services within the model – one for families who would benefit from a Family Therapy Intervention, and one for families who are more likely to engage successfully in community supports through a Therapeutic Casework intervention.

About you:

We are seeking applications from candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Social Work or Psychology or an Aboriginal Health Worker;
  • Highly effective interpersonal, emotional intelligence and engagement skills and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • High level of skill in working with databases, proficient in data entry and electronic data collection systems, and strong analytical skills with demonstrated experience in interpreting data for effective reporting
  • A track record of working collaboratively with the demonstrated capacity to negotiate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders including FACS, other agencies and the community;
  • Confidence to work safely in client homes and out-of-office environments and awareness of safety and risk factors and knowledge of safety planning;
  • Ability to relate to clients and their families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Benefits on offer:

  • Generous Salary Packaging of up to $15,900 (additional tax free allowance)
  • Ongoing training and career development opportunities
  • Employee Assistance Program to support your wellbeing

You must:
