About the role:
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Technician will be working within our Auchenflower Embryology team to assist in delivery a high-quality technical service and support laboratory activities.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining and creating accurate, timely and legible patient records.
  • Andrology reception, including responsibility for responsibility for sample receipt and patient paperwork completion
  • Receive training to reach competency in laboratory procedures; Semen Processing, Semen Analysis, Semen Freezing & Thawing, DNA Fragmentation.
  • Participating in laboratory quality control schedules under supervision ie. Equipment calibrations & data logging.
  • Acting as a ‘Witness’ for laboratory procedures as required.
  • Preparing culture medium, tubes and dishes using aseptic technique.
  • Carrying out laboratory and equipment cleaning routines as per established timetable.
  • Assisting with logistics and stockroom duties, such as ordering, packing and unpacking consumables, media and equipment and coordinating regular maintenance
  Ideally you will bring:
  • Bachelor of Science (or equivalent qualification)
  • MSc in Life Science
  • Experience in a laboratory environment
  • Experience using patient databases and other relevant software
  • Able to solve problems and work to deadlines
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team where required
  • Strong sense of initiative
  • Ability to prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Passion for great customer service skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office skills including presentation skills
  • A critical eye for detail
